A creative project by Alessandra Carta in collaboration with Costumi d’Arte – Peruzzi, showcasing exquisite costumes created by the ideal union of high fashion and the stage, bringing iconic characters (such as the Queen of Sheba, Solomon, Cleopatra, Aida, and Turandotto) to life.

The weekly gathering allows participants to bring their own sketchbooks or drawing materials to draw together, enjoy coffee, and connect with other artists. At the end of the month, artworks created during these sessions will be collaged and displayed at Jazz Coffee, provided the artists give their permission and sign their work.

The 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, with the theme “Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian” (October 19–25, 2026), kicks off in Ethiopia celebrating the great music, cinema, fashion, and theatre! We start on October 19 at 5:30 pm with the theatrical costume exhibition “DRESSING THE IMAGINARY. Italian Ingenuity in Stage Costume Between Africa, the East, and Legend”. The creative project is curated by the costume and fashion designer Alessandra Carta in collaboration with Emanuele Zito, Artistic Director of “Costumi d’Arte – Peruzzi”, one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious theatrical costume ateliers, founded in 1815. The exhibition showcases precious costumes that combine the elegance of great fashion with the magic of the stage, bringing to life iconic figures from history and myth (particularly from Ethiopia) and opera, including the Queen of Sheba, Solomon, Semiramide, Cleopatra, Aida, Amonasro, and Turandot.

Immediately following the exhibition vernissage, there will be, at 6:00 pm, a concert titled “UNO STRADIVARI AL CINEMA. A Journey Through the Great Italian Film Music” with the soloists of the Camerata Ducale, conducted by Maestro Guido Rimonda, who will play, on the occasion, the legendary 1721 Stradivarius violin, “Le Noir”. This unique experience blends music with the big screen, accompanied by screenings of some of the most beloved scenes in world cinema history (including Oscar winners such as “Life Is Beautiful” by Roberto Benigni, “Cinema Paradiso” by Giuseppe Tornatore, “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” by Vittorio De Sica, “The Postman" by Michael Radford & Massimo Troisi, aside, of course, from Sergio Leone's unforgettable Western films).

Registrations are open for Amharic classes. Registrations extended until September 14, 2026. Beginner classes are every Monday and Intermediate classes are every Wednesday. The course starts on September 14, 2026 and runs for 10 weeks, 20 hours total. Classes are from 18:00 - 20:00.

Critical Mass Addis Ababa is organizing its 42nd edition cycling event this Friday, 31 July. Training on scientific drawing and artistic reconstructions of past organisms and ecosystems. Applications open October 1–31, 2026. Training dates: December 2–8, 2026. This training will be delivered by a highly renowned paleoartist and scientific illustrator, Ms. Charlène Letenneur, from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The 16-hours training will take place from December 2nd to December 8th. The training capacity will be limited to 15 highly-motivated participants. Applications will be evaluated based on a brief cv, a motivation letter and a recommendation letter. Optionally (but highly recommended), applicants can provide samples of their drawings. Participation is free of charge. Selected participants commit to complete the entire training program and will receive an official certificate of attendance.

The final 2026 session of the DELF Junior will take place on December 5 and 12 at the Alliance Ethio-Francaise of Addis Ababa, the main accredited DELF examination center in Ethiopia.

Mandefrot Mamuye (b. 2002, Arba Minch, Ethiopia) is a studio artist based in Addis Ababa. Working across sculpture, painting, and installation, he uses natural pigments and raw materials to explore the tension between human consciousness and primal instinct, creating works that examine identity, vulnerability, and transformation.
